Before learning the full scenario of using Auto Scaling, some important concepts about Auto Scaling will be explained. The following are the main concepts to be explained.

    Note

To better understand the concept of Auto Scaling, see Glossary.

    Launch Configuration

Launch Configuration is a kind of template that configures the specifications of a virtual server that is automatically created when scale-out (server expansion) is required during Auto Scaling. To create an Auto Scaling Group, you must first configure and save server specifications in Launch Configuration.
When configuring the server, you can use the default server image provided by the NAVER Cloud Platform or My Server image created in the Server menu. Also, perform the same setting process as when creating a general server, such as authentication key or network access. There is no billing because no actual server is created, but a template is created.

    Auto Scaling Group

An Auto Scaling Group is a server group that performs Auto Scaling functions. It can be created based on Launch Configuration, and can be bound with Load Balancer if necessary. Scaling rules are set based on the policy or schedule. If traffic demand fluctuations are not predicted, a policy can be set to perform scaling in a specific situation during monitoring, and if traffic demand fluctuates periodically, a schedule can be set to perform scaling at a specific time. When a group is created, a server is automatically created according to the scaling rule, and the server usage fee is charged.

    Advantages of using Auto Scaling

    • If you use My Server image when creating Launch Configuration, you can use it conveniently because a new server is created according to the desired specifications. In addition, if the initial configuration script is entered in advance, when the server is created, application installation and system settings are automated, so the new server can be used immediately.

    • When connecting an Auto Scaling Group with a Load Balancer, even the process of adding/excluding servers to/from the Load Balancer is all automated. Also, you can check the health status of servers in the Auto Scaling Group with Load Balancer's health check function.
