Available in Classic and VPC

You may encounter the following issues while using the Auto Scaling service. Check the causes and solutions for each issue and take an action accordingly:

"Failed to link externally." Messages

The message that indicates the external linkage has failed appears when trying to create Launch Configuration.

Cause

If the name of Launch Configuration is too long, this error might occur. You can enter up to 30 characters for the Launch Configuration name.

Solution

Enter a name for Launch Configuration that is 30 characters or less, and then create it again.

"Administrative suspension is active due to repeated server creation failures" message

• The message that indicates "Administrative suspension is active due to repeated server creation failures" appears.
• "It is presumed that there is defect in the server image or user data. Launching server instance failed." The message appears.

Cause

• An error may occur if the minimum, maximum, or desired capacity is set incorrectly.
• If some information is missing while creating Auto Scaling Group, an error might occur.

Solution

• Review the minimum, maximum, and desired capacity.
• Restart the paused process. For instructions on how to restart the process, see change Auto Scaling Group settings.
