    Create and manage virtual devices

    Article Summary

    Available in Classic and VPC

A virtual device is a feature that helps you manage your IoT devices that have certificates installed. If you connect the certificate to the virtual device, you can set whether to activate the certificate of the IoT device where the certificate is installed, and you can control the transmission/reception of messages. For instance, if 10 certificates are allocated to 10 devices measuring temperatures in a factory, a user can hardly identify which certificate is allocated to which device, so the user needs to manage certificates by using a separate program or method. However, you can create a virtual device named "TempDevice" using Cloud IoT Core and connect it with the certificates installed on the devices. This makes it easy to check which device has which certificate and which device is affected by changing or deleting certificates. In addition, you can save the metadata (manufacturer, serial number, rated voltage, and so on) of the virtual device by setting property values on the virtual device, and search a desired virtual device with the condition of the set property values.

    ItemsDescription
① Virtual device tabA tab for creating and managing virtual devices
② Property templates tabA tab for managing templates of properties to apply for creating virtual devices
③ Function buttonsButtons for creating and managing virtual devices or property templates
④ ListA list of virtual devices or property templates created by the user
    ⑤ Search
  • In the [Virtual device] tab, you can search by virtual device name, description, and property key.
  • In the [Property template] tab, you can search by property template name and property template key.
  • Note

You can use the equal mark or colon when searching virtual device properties.

    • Using the equal(=) mark: When inputting key1=value1, you can search results where the property key is equal to key1 and the property value is equal to value1.
    • Using colon(:): When inputting key1: value1, you can search results where the property key is equal to key1 and the property value includes value1.

    Create virtual device

The following describes how to create a virtual device.

    1. Click Services > Internet of Things > Cloud IoT Core > Virtual Devices on the NAVER Cloud Platform console.
    2. Click [Create virtual device] in the [Virtual device] tab.
    3. Enter the name and description for the virtual device.
    4. Set the property and mirror for the virtual device.
    5. Click the [Create] button.
    Note
    • English characters, numbers, - (hyphen), and _ (underline) can be used in the virtual device name and up to 128 characters can be entered.
    • You cannot register the same virtual device name multiple times.
    • You can add up to 10 properties.
    • You cannot register the same property key multiple times.
    • English characters, numbers, - (hyphen), and _ (underline) can be used in the property key and up to 128 characters can be entered.
    • English characters, numbers, - (hyphen), and _ (underline) can be used in the property value and up to 512 characters can be entered.

    Delete virtual device

You can delete virtual devices that are no longer in use. The following describes how to delete a virtual device.

    1. Click Services > Internet of Things > Cloud IoT Core > Virtual Devices on the NAVER Cloud Platform console.
    2. Select the virtual device to delete from the virtual device list and then click [Delete].
    3. When the Delete pop-up window appears, click [Delete].

Create property template of virtual device

If you have created a property template, you can conveniently import the property key value of the virtual device when creating a similar type of virtual device later. The following describes how to add property template for the virtual devices.

    1. Click Services > Internet of Things > Cloud IoT Core > Virtual Devices on the NAVER Cloud Platform console.
    2. Click [Create property template] in the [Property template] tab.
    3. When the pop-up window appears, enter the property template name.
    4. Enter the key value.
    5. Click the [Create] button.
    Note
    • You cannot register the same property template name multiple times.
    • You cannot register the same property template key multiple times.
    • You can add up to 10 template keys.
    • English characters, numbers, - (hyphen), and _ (underline) can be used in the property template name and property key, and up to 128 characters can be entered.
