Available in Classic and VPC
If you get a hard bounce result when sending an email, then the system registers the recipient's email address to the send block list.
- The address on the send block list is retained for 7 days (168 hours) by default, and you may change the retention time.
- If you changes the retention time for blocking, then the change is applied to the addresses registered after the change and the retention time for the existing addresses on the list remains unchanged.
The hard bounce is a result code that fails to send an email due to a permanent reason. Even if you attempt to resend it, you may fail to send it.
The delivery result codes included in the hard bounce are as follows.
Code | Description |
---|---|
MAILBOX_ERROR | Delivery failure due to an error in the recipient's inbox |
MAIL_CONTENTS_ERROR | Delivery failure due to a mail content error |
NETWORK_ERROR | Delivery failure due to a network error |
RECEIVE_MAIL_SERVICE_ERROR | Delivery failure due to a recipient's mail service error |
RECIPIENT_ADDRESS_ERROR | Delivery failure due to a recipient address error |
SECURITY_AND_POLICY_ERROR | Delivery failure due to security and policy errors |
SMTP_ERROR | Delivery failure due to an SMTP error with the recipient |
If you send an email to an address on the send block list, then the delivery is blocked with the result code SEND_BLOCK_ADDRESS.
