Precautions for use
GeoLocation continuously analyzes vast amounts of data and regularly updates its regional information database to maintain up-to-date location information per IP. However, IPs are subject to telecommunications companies and have fluid characteristics, so there may be instances when the most accurate and current information cannot be provided. Before using GeoLocation, make sure to check and consider the following:
- Telecommunications companies regularly retrieve and reassign IPs for efficient use of the limited IP address resources.
- Telecommunications companies assign IP addresses based on their base stations, not administrative districts, so similar IP addresses may occasionally straddle city or province boundaries.
- It takes some time for GeoLocation to collect the necessary information for analysis after the location information of the IP has changed.
- In mobile network environments such as 3G and LTE, IP reassignment does not happen to nearby regions but is conducted nationwide. As IPs can be reassigned multiple times in the time it takes for GeoLocation to collect and analyze this information, accuracy cannot be guaranteed. Thus, GeoLocation does not provide location information for IP addresses on mobile networks.
- IPs used for NAT, VPN, Proxy, and so on tend to be used across very wide areas, similar to mobile networks, since multiple users share a single IP. This could potentially decrease the accuracy of GeoLocation.
Usage fee
GeoLocation usage fees are charged based on the number of normal API calls per month, but no charges are applied for abnormal calls, such as authentication errors, internal errors within NAVER Cloud Platform, or IP location search errors. For details about the GeoLocation usage fee, see Services > Application Services > GeoLocation menu in the portal or the pricing information page by Region.
