Precautions for use
GeoLocation analyzes vast amounts of data and continuously updates its regional information database to maintain up-to-date IP location details. However, since IP addresses belong to telecommunications providers and are inherently fluid, there may be occasions when the most current and accurate information is not available. Before using GeoLocation, make sure to review and consider the following:
- Telecommunications companies routinely reclaim and reassign IP addresses, a limited resource, to use them efficiently.
- Rather than allocating IP addresses based on administrative districts, providers assign them based on their own regions, which can sometimes result in similar IP addresses spanning across adjacent district or city boundaries.
- After an IP's location information changes, it may take some time for GeoLocation to collect the necessary data for analysis.
- In mobile network environments such as 3G and LTE, IP reassignments are carried out on a nationwide scale rather than to nearby areas. Even as GeoLocation gathers and processes the information, multiple IP reassignments can occur, undermining accuracy, and therefore, GeoLocation does not provide location data for IP addresses on mobile networks.
- IPs used through such as NAT, VPN, Proxy are shared among multiple users, and similar to mobile networks, tend to cover very broad areas. As a result, the accuracy of GeoLocation may be reduced.
