# Add-on overview

Available in VPC

Use this guide to get the most out of the add-on management features of Ncloud Kubernetes Service.

### About add-ons

Add-ons allow you to install additional components required for a cluster and manage their versions and settings. Select and install the desired add-ons from the catalog. After installation, you can update versions, change settings, and delete add-ons as needed.

With the add-on management feature, you can perform the following tasks:

- View the list, versions, and status of installed add-ons.
- Select a desired version from those compatible with the cluster's Kubernetes version.
- Enter the settings defined for each add-on to install it with the desired configuration.

### Add-on interface

You can view installed add-ons and related information on the **[Add-on]** tab of the cluster details page. The following information is available for each add-on:

- Name, description, category: Add-on identification information
- Status: Current task and operational status (see [Check status](/docs/en/k8s-k8suse-addon-overview#%EC%83%81%ED%83%9C-%ED%99%95%EC%9D%B8)).
- Version information: Installed version and latest catalog version. If an updatable version exists, "Update available" is displayed.
- Status log message: Message displayed when you click **[View task result details]**. Used to identify the cause of a failed task.

### Check status

Add-on tasks are processed asynchronously. Check the status to view the progress and result of a request.

Add-ons can have the following statuses.

| Status | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| Installing, Updating, Deleting | Installation, update, or deletion task in progress. |
| Active | Task completed. Add-on deployed successfully. |
| Installation failed, Update failed, Deletion failed | Task failed. Check the cause in the status log message. |

Add-ons undergoing a Canary upgrade have a Canary status in addition to the statuses above. For more information, see Canary upgrade in [Add-on installation and management](/docs/en/k8s-k8suse-addon-manage).
