    Some terminology is crucial in using System Security Checker. The glossary and its description are as follows.

    Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)

    Network management protocol used exclusively on most TCP or IP networks. Method of monitoring and controlling network devices or managing settings, statistical data collection, execution performance, and security features.

    Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)

    Standard communication protocol used when sending emails on the Internet

    User Identifier (UID)

    An array or pattern of characters used to identify users on the data processing system

    CentOS

    A type of Linux operating system developed in partnership with Red Hat for the purpose of providing free corporate computing platforms that have perfect compatibility with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, the upstream source

    Ubuntu

    Linux kernel-based operating system that allows the use of programs and peripheral devices in computers. Can be installed and used in mobile devices, desktop computers, and servers.

    Web Application Server (WAS)

    Middleware software server that provides environments for the processing and management of transactions and application execution on a client or server environment

    Umask

    Command term that determines mask settings, which control how to set permissions of newly made files in computing

    Internet Information Server (IIS)

    Server software for the internet and intranet developed by Microsoft of the United States. Versions 2.0 and later are attached to the Windows NT server by standard and integrated with the operating system, allowing the management of the World Wide Web (WWW) without complicated procedures.

    Transport Layer Security (TLS)

    Name of a standardized encryption protocol for protecting data sent and received in Internet communication

    File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

    File transfer protocol used between servers and clients
