Video Player Enhancement glossary

You must become familiar with a few terms to use the Video Player Enhancement service. The terms and their descriptions are as follows.

API call count

The number of events collected in the Media Analytics service, synonymous with usage

ended event

Occurs when the video is watched to the end in the player However, in repeated playback mode, the seeking event occurs at 0 seconds instead of the ended event, so the ended event does not occur

error event

Occurs when an error occurs in the player

next_track event

Occurs immediately when the next video button is clicked in the player

paused event

Occurs immediately when player's stop button is clicked

player_start event

Occurs at the start of the player, indicating the player is authenticated for the Video Player Enhancement service and is ready to play

playing event

Is the event utilized when measuring player play time, report to the Media Analytics service every 60 seconds If another type of event occurs before 60 seconds elapse, the playing event Is reported to the Media Analytics service as soon as the event occurs.

prev_track event

Occurs immediately when the previous video button is clicked in the player

rebuffering event

Signifies a state where buffering occurs in the player because there is not enough data to play the video. However, buffering occurring in seeking events is excluded, so rebuffering event doesn’t occur

seeking event

Occurs immediately when the video is searched or the resolution is changed in the player

startup event

Occurs at the successful start of the player, signifying that the first screen of the video is played after the user attempts to play the player

Video Player Enhancement

A video player service of NAVER Cloud Platform that with superior performance based on customizable SaaS

VOD Station

A NAVER Cloud Platform service that provides encoding and transmission utilizing video files stored in Object Storage of NAVER Cloud Platform

Domain call count

Used in the Media Analysis service, the number of player_start events that occurred in the player

Live Station

A NAVER Cloud Platform service that can implement the essential features of live streams in a cost-effective way through powerful encoding performance

Rebuffering rate

Used in the Media Analytics service, the sum of the time that rebuffering events lasted in the player is divided by the sum of the total play time and the time that rebuffering events lasted, then multiplied by 100

Method

Pre-designated operation method to be used when web servers send request and response data from HTTP protocols. W3C defines 8 methods, including GET and POST.

Metadata

Structuralized data that provide explanations on other data. Data is provided to content according to a certain set of rules, for efficient search and use of desired information from a large volume of data.

Buffering time

Used in the Media Analytics service, the sum of video start time in the player, playback seek time, and time that rebuffering events lasted

Video start time

Used in the Media Analytics service, the sum of the time that startup events lasted in the player is divided by the number of startup events

Usage

The number of events collected in the Media Analytics service, synonymous with API call count

Session

Used in the Media Analytics service, user contents collected from player starting time to ending time, group of event data

Start, failed

Used in the Media Analytics service, the sum of the number of all error events that occurred before startup events in the player

Real-time viewer count

Used in the Media Analytics service, the number of sessions where the time of the most recent player event didn't pass 3 minutes as of the inquiry time

Error rate

Used in the Media Analytics service, the number of error events in the player is divided by the number of player_start events, then multiplied by 100

Object Storage

A NAVER Cloud Platform service that can save and search all types of data on the internet

Unique user

Used in the Media Analytics service, the number of unique IP addresses that watched the player

Event

Used in the Media Analytics service, playback, pause, seek, and buffering information occurred from a player Events include player_start, startup, playing, paused, seeking, rebuffering, prev_track, next_track, ended, and error

Abandon

Used in the Media Analytics service, the sessions where the time of the most recent player event elapsed 3 minutes as of the inquiry time are considered as abandon

Play stage success count

Used in the Media Analytics service, the number of startup events in the player

Playback seek time

Used in the Media Analytics service, the sum of the time that lasted seeking events in the player is divided by the number of seeking events

Total start time

Used in the Media Analytics service, the sum of player start time and video start time

Total playback count

Used in the Media Analytics service, the number that viewers tried to play in the player, including autoplay

Total playback time

Used in the Media Analytics service, the sum of the time that playing events lasted in the player

Recent session information

Used in the Media Analytics service, information about 100 sessions that occurred in the last one day in the player

Content analysis

Used in the Media Analytics service, the analysis result after collecting the number that playback is successful for contents collected in the player and play time daily

Player start time

Used in the Media Analytics service, the sum of the time that player_event events lasted in the player is divided by the number of player_start events
