You might run into the following problems when using Global Traffic Manager. Find out causes and possible solutions.
Fail Over / Active-Backup Setup
I am trying to set up Fail Over and Active-Backup so that failback is possible without disrupting the service.
Solution
Fail Over algorithm provided in Global Route Manager
To install the Fail Over algorithm provided in Global Route Manager, follow these steps:
- Select the Traffic Policy name and click the [Policy settings] button.
- When a Traffic Policy setup window appears, select the Round Robin algorithm.
- In the Resource settings area, click the [Advanced settings] tab.
- In the Add Resource item, enter the setting information for Standby used in Fail Over for both Active Resource and Backup Resource.
- For the Active Resource, select an external public IP.
- Select the health check option as Enabled and enter the health check information.
- Click the [OK] button.
Fail Over algorithm provided in Global Traffic Manager
For Fail Over algorithms of Global Route Manager, you can set up algorithms other than Round Robin. You can apply Fail Over algorithm for all algorithms of Global Traffic Manager.
- Select the Traffic Policy name and click the [Policy settings] button.
- When a Traffic Policy setup window appears, choose an algorithm.
- In the Resource settings area, click the [Advanced settings] tab.
- In the Add Resource item, enter the setting information for Standby used in Fail Over for both Active Resource and Backup Resource.
- For the Active Resource, select an external public IP.
- Select the health check option as Enabled and enter the health check information.
- Click the [OK] button.
Restricting number of response resources
I want to restrict the number of response resources.
Cause
You can restrict the number of response resources only for Round Robin algorithm.
Solution
You can set up the following 5 resources to not respond at once but respond divided in 2, 3 parts.

To restrict the number of response resources, follow these steps:
- Select a Traffic Policy name in the Traffic Policy menu, and click the [Policy settings] button.
- Click the [Create Traffic Policy] button.
- In the [General settings] tab of Resource settings item, group resources to respond together to the additional items of Resource.

Impossible to check domain health
It is impossible to check domain health.
Cause
Health check is supported for external public IP only, and if you select an external Domain, you cannot set up a health check.
Solution
Check the situations in which health check is impossible.
- If you choose an external Domain for Type, you cannot set up a health check.
- When setting to external Domain in Active settings in the Advanced settings, it is impossible to set up Backup Resource. However, you can set up external Domain in Backup Resource.
Changing Status code when setting up health check
I want to change Status code when setting up health check (for HTTP or HTTPS).
Solution
To change the status code when setting up a health check, follow these steps:
- Select a Traffic Policy from the Traffic Policy menu and click the [Policy settings] button.
- In the health check area, click the [Advanced settings] tab.
- Choose HTTP or HTTPS protocol.
- Set a Status code that passed a health check in the Status Code List item.
- Several Status codes can be set up below.
- When a Status code cannot be set up separately, the default value is 2XX.
- Click [OK].
