    You can encode raw media files stored in Object Storage so that you can play them in different qualities on various devices such as a mobile phone and PC.

    Create a category

    To encode a video, create a category and add the source file to the category first.

    The following describes how to create a category for encoding.

    1. From the NAVER Cloud Platform console, click Services > Media > VOD Station.

    2. Click the Category menu and click [Create Category].

    3. Enter a category name and set up the category.

      • The fields marked with "•" are required.
      • Select Quick Template for Configure Encoding to use encoding presets depending on the content type. Select Configure Now and click [Add] to select up to 5 presets in the list of video/audio encoding presets.
      • You can also create a new encoding preset from the detailed preset settings menu. For more information, see Create a preset.
      • In the File Path settings, set the Object Storage bucket to save the original file and the directory path to save the output after encoding. If there is no Object Storage bucket, click vodstation-vodstationchannel_link_ko and create a new bucket.
      • Select Configure Now for Advanced Settings to enable file trimming by setting the start and end of the playback range or add a watermark or image (in PNG or TGA files).
    4. Once the setup is complete, click [Create].

    5. After checking the set details in the confirmation pop-up window, click [Create].

    Create a preset

    Create a preset using the default encoding preset settings in the VOD Station.

    The following describes how to create a preset.

    1. In the category creation screen, select Configure Now for Configure Encoding and click [Add].
    2. Select a default preset and click [OK].
    3. Click [Details] for the preset item you added.
    4. Click [OK] in the confirmation pop-up window.
    5. Enter a preset name in the settings pop-up window and configure the settings.
    6. Once the setup is complete, click [Save].
      • The new preset will be immediately applied to the category and added to the Custom section in the preset list.
    Note
    • To delete a preset, click [Delete Preset] in the settings pop-up window of the preset.
    • The values in the price information table depend on your codec, resolution, pass, and frame rate settings. Please pay attention when configuring the settings.

    Encode a new file

    You can encode a media file using the category you created.

    The following describes how to encode a media file.

    1. From the NAVER Cloud Platform console, click Services > Media > VOD Station.
    2. Click the Category menu and click [Encode New File] for the category you want to use for encoding.
    3. Select an input file.
      • You can select the original file in Object Storage or an HTTP download URL.
      • Object Storage file
        • Select a file in your object storage.
      • HTTP download URL
        • Enter an HTTP URL to download the original file.
        • The download URL can be up to 2048 characters long.
    4. Select an output file path.
      • You can save the output file to a different path instead of the default path you selected when creating the category.
    5. Select a thumbnail output file path.
      • Select the path to save the thumbnail.
    6. Configure advanced settings.
      • Set the start and end points for encoding.
      • Add an image.
    7. Click [OK].
      • The name of the encoded file will be automatically set as [Raw file name] [Resolution].

    Check the progress

    Check the progress of encoding and view other status information.

    The following describes how to check the progress of encoding.

    1. From the NAVER Cloud Platform console, click Services > Media > VOD Station.

    2. Click Status to view the progress and other status information.

    Manage a category

    You can change the category settings in the category list or delete the categories that are no longer used.

    Change the category settings

    The following describes how to change the category settings.

    1. From the NAVER Cloud Platform console, click Services > Media > VOD Station.
    2. Click Category.
    3. Select a category and click [Configure Category].
    4. Change the settings and click [Change].
    5. Click [OK] in the confirmation pop-up window.
    Note
    • The [Configure OUTPUT] button is displayed if you have not applied the encoding settings to the category. Click the button to change the category's name, encoding settings, and advanced settings.
    • The files that are already encoded are not affected by the change. The new settings only apply to the files encoded after the change.

    Delete a category

    The following describes how to delete a category.

    1. From the NAVER Cloud Platform console, click Services > Media > VOD Station.
    2. Click Category.
    3. Select a category in the list and click [Delete Category].
    4. Click [OK] in the confirmation pop-up window.
    Note

    Deleting a category does not delete the folders and files you created in the Object Storage bucket. Delete the related folders and files in Object Storage.
