    Create channel

To utilize NAVER Cloud Platform's Live Station for live streaming service, you need to create a channel.

    Note
    • All settings established during channel creation cannot be changed after the creation is complete.
    • There are no limitations to channel creation and you can easily create and return channels as necessary. For information on how to return a channel, see Return channel.
    • If you want to create an LL-HLS channel, see Precautions for creating LL-HLS channel when creating the channel.

The following describes how to create a channel.

    1. Access the NAVER Cloud Platform console.
    2. From the Region menu, click the Region you're using.
    3. From the Platform menu, click the platform you're using.
    4. Click Services > Media > Live Station menus, in that order.
    5. Click the Channel management menu.
    6. Click the [Create channel] button.
    7. When the Create channel page appears, proceed with the following steps in order.

    livestation-channel_creating_ko

    • Channel name: enter the channel name
    • Output protocol settings: select protocol
      • HLS: an option to enable stable and highly compatible HLS streaming
      • LL-HLS: an option to enable low-latency HLS streaming through CMAF. Integration of a separate player is required
      • HLS, Dash: an option to enable both general HLS and Dash streaming
      • NAVER Cloud Video Player Enhancement Player is required.
    Caution
    • When the LL-HLS protocol is enabled, LL-HLS is only available when the service region for Global Edge CDN is set to "South Korea."
    • As it is CMAF-based, the LL-HLS does not support MP3 format. LL-HLS is not applicable when the passthrough is set to MP3 format.
    • Create CDN: select CDN to integrate
      • Create new: a CDN is created along with the channel, and you can obtain the playback URL of the channel after the CDN creation is complete
      • Use custom CDN: select an existing CDN to integrate with
    Caution
    • This video converted by Live Station is transmitted to viewers through NAVER Cloud Platform's Global Edge service. Therefore, a separate Global Edge fee will be charged for broadcasting through Live Station.
    • If you integrate an incompatible CDN, stable live broadcasting cannot be played.
The CDNs that can be integrated with Live Station are as follows:
      • CDN created during the process of creating other Live Station channels
      • CDN with necessary settings for integration with Live Station
      • CDN created on NAVER Cloud Platform
      • CDN with original domain and dedicated path assigned to the channel to be integrated
      • CDN configured as follows:
        • Protocol of original communication: HTTPS (443 port)
        • Forward Host Header: Origin Hostname
        • Cache Key Hostname: Incoming Host Header
        • Caching option: prioritize the origin's cache-control header
        • Force revalidation of stale object: provide only valid content
    • Channel type: classification of customer service environment
      • Depending on the service environment to be applied, you can set the Live Station channel type to REAL/DEV/STAGE.
      • The channel type is a simple identifier, and there is no difference in channel functionality.
    • Streaming redundancy settings: if there is a problem with the main stream URL during setup, stream to the backup stream URL without interruption

    2. Set image quality

Select the image quality setting of the channel you want to create, and then click the [Next] button.
When the LL-HLS protocol is enabled, only LL-HLS exclusive image quality options are selectable.

    • Set system image quality: set up with built-in image quality
    • Set custom image quality: set up your own image quality
    • Once you select Set image quality, you can view the image quality configuration status and the segment status included in the image quality settings.

    3. Set recording

Set the recording feature, and then click the [Next] button.
    livestation-channel_recording_ko

    • Time machine settings: the feature available on the Live Station, which allows you to rewind live broadcasts up to 6 hours in the past (equivalent to the existing DVR setting)

    • Recording save settings: the configuration for determining whether to record and how and where to save the recorded files

      • Save temporarily: temporarily save recorded files for 3 days
        • You can check the recording files on the [Recording] tab and store them in the Object Storage bucket. Unsaved recording files will be permanently deleted.
      • Auto save: automatically save recorded files in a designated bucket after broadcasting ends
      Note

The time point when saving actually happens depends on the automatic recording settings, and it either automatically records at the same time as the video is streamed, or saves the file when the user completes the start and end of the recording.

    • Automatic recording settings: set whether or not to record automatically

      • Manual: start recording by clicking the [Start recording] button during broadcasting
      • Auto: start recording at the same time as streaming
        • However, multiple recording files may be created if streaming is unstable.
    • Recording types of automatic save: select the recording file type

      • You can select either MP4, HLS, or both.

    4. Final confirmation

Check the setting information of the channel you want to create, and then click the [Create channel] button.
