In the Create and manage channel section, we describe how to create a channel, view channel details, and return a channel.

Create channel

To utilize NAVER Cloud Platform's Live Station for live streaming service, you need to create a channel.

Note
  • All settings configured during channel creation cannot be changed after the creation is complete.
  • There are no limitations to channel creation and you can easily create and return channels as necessary. For more information about how to return a channel, see Return channel.
  • If you want to create an LL-HLS channel, see Precautions for creating LL-HLS channel when creating the channel.

To create a channel:

  1. From the NAVER Cloud Platform console, navigate to i_menu > Services > Media > Live Station.
  2. Click the Channel management menu.
  3. Click [Create channel].
  4. When the Create channel interface appears, proceed with the following steps in order.

1. Create channel

Set basic information for the channel you want to create, and then click [Next].
livestation-channel_creating_ko

  • Channel name: Enter the name of the channel.
  • Output Protocol settings: Select the protocol.
    • HLS: An option to enable stable and highly compatible HLS streaming.
    • LL-HLS: An option to enable low latency HLS streaming using CMAF. Integration of a separate player is required.
    • HLS, Dash: An option to enable both general HLS and Dash streaming.
    • NAVER Cloud Video Player Enhancement Player is required.
Caution
  • The LL-HLS protocol is available only when the Global Edge CDN service area is set to "Korea."
  • As it is CMAF-based, the LL-HLS does not support the MP3 format. LL-HLS is not applicable when the passthrough is set to the MP3 format.
  • Create CDN: Select a CDN to integrate with.
    • Create new: The CDN is created together with the channel. Once the CDN creation is complete, you can obtain the channel's playback URL.
    • Use existing CDN: Select the existing CDN for integration.
Caution
  • Videos converted through Live Station are transferred to viewers via NAVER Cloud Platform's Global Edge. Therefore, a separate Global Edge pricing information is charged when you stream a broadcast through Live Station.
  • If you integrate an incompatible CDN, stable live broadcasting is unavailable for playback. CDNs you can integrate with Live Station are as follows:
    • CDN created during other live channel creation
    • CDN with required settings for Live Station integrations
    • CDN created on NAVER Cloud Platform
    • CDN with the original domain and a dedicated path assigned to the channel to be integrated
    • CDN configured as follows:
      • Protocol of original communication: HTTPS (port 443)
      • Forward Host Header: Origin Hostname
      • Cache Key Hostname: Incoming Host Header
      • Caching Option: The origin's Cache-Control header first.
      • Force Revalidation of Stale Object: Provides only valid content.
  • Channel type: Classification of customer service environment.
    • Depending on the service environment to be applied, you can set the Live Station channel type to REAL/DEV/STAGE.
    • The channel type is a simple identifier, and there is no difference in channel functionality.
  • Streaming redundancy settings: If a problem occurs with the main stream URL during setup, stream a broadcast to the backup stream URL without interruption.
  • Overseas streaming support: All Live Station channels support stable live broadcast streaming overseas through a foreign forward proxy.
  • Multi DRM: If you set it, integrate with One Click Multi DRM.

2. Set image quality.

Select the image quality setting of the channel you want to create, and then click [Next].
When the LL-HLS protocol is enabled, only LL-HLS exclusive image quality options are selectable.

  • System image quality settings: Set the image quality provided by default.
  • Custom image quality settings: Set the image quality applied directly at creation.
  • Once you select Set image quality, you can view the image quality configuration status and the segment status included in the image quality settings.

3. Set recording

Set the recording feature, and then click [Next].

  • Time machine settings: The feature available on Live Station, which allows you to rewind live broadcasts up to 6 hours in the past (equivalent to the existing DVR settings).
  • Recording save settings: The configuration for determining whether to record and how and where to save the recorded files.
    • Save temporarily: Temporarily save recorded files for 3 days.
      • You can check the recorded files on the [Recording] tab and store them in the Object Storage bucket. Unsaved recording files are permanently deleted.
    • Auto save: Automatically save recorded files in a designated bucket after broadcasting ends.
    Note

The time point when saving actually happens depends on the automatic recording settings, and it either automatically records at the same time as the video is streamed, or saves the file when the user completes the start and end of the recording.

  • Auto recording settings: Set whether to record automatically.
    • Manual: Start recording by clicking [Start recording] during broadcast streaming.
    • Auto: Start recording at the same time as streaming.
      • However, multiple recorded files may be created if streaming is unstable.
  • Recording types of automatic save: Select the recording file type.
    • You can select either MP4, HLS, or both.

4. Final confirmation

Check the setting information of the channel you want to create, and then click [Create channel].

Change channel status

You can stream a broadcast by stopping a channel that is in streaming or ready status, or by changing a channel that is in a stopped status to ready status again.

Caution

To change the channel status:

  1. From the NAVER Cloud Platform console, navigate to i_menu > Services > Media > Live Station.
  2. Click the Channel management menu.
  3. To change the status, select the channel by clicking on it and then click [Channel OFF] or [Channel ON].
    • If the channel status is Ready or Streaming, [Channel OFF] is displayed.
    • If the channel status is Stopped, [Channel ON] is displayed.
  4. If you click [Channel OFF], stop the channel by clicking [Channel OFF] in the channel ON/OFF popup.
  5. If you click [Channel ON], enable the channel by clicking [Channel ON] in the channel ON/OFF popup.

Return channel

To return a channel:

Caution
  • You can return only the channels that are in the Ready status. If the channel is currently streaming, stop the streaming before returning it.
  • If the channel is returned, all created snapshots are deleted.
  • Even if you return a channel, the CDN that was integrated with it is not deleted. Remove any unused CDN to avoid unnecessary charges.
  1. From the NAVER Cloud Platform console, navigate to i_menu > Services > Media > Live Station.
  2. Click the Channel management menu.
  3. In the channel list, click to select the channel you wish to return, and then click [Return channel].
