Datafence quickstart

Available in VPC

Datafence of NAVER Cloud Platform allows you to analyze data in a safe environment where you don’t have to worry about external leaks. You can view how to use it in detail in Getting started with Datafence and Using Datafence, but we recommend that you first go through the full quickstart document. Reading the guide after learning the quickstart document will allow you to use Datafence more efficiently.

Note

When you use Datafence, see the following for permissions of the main account, Datafence's sub account, and the box's sub account:

  • The main account and Datafence sub account can perform infrastructure and data management and data analysis scenarios, but the box's sub account can only perform data analysis scenarios.
  • The main account can control all functions of other services required for operating Datafence (<example> VPC, Server, Storage, and NAS), but the permission is restricted for Datafence's sub account.

Datafence management quickstart

The following is the complete sequence of controlling the Datafence environment as a Datafence administrator and a description of each step:

1. Set usage permissions
2. Prepare integrated services
3. Create Datafence
4. Upload shared data and create data group
5. Manage box
6. Review whether to export analysis results
7. Return Datafence

1. Set usage permissions

When Datafence is needed to manage and share with multiple users, you can assign permissions per user and operate the service. Permissions for each user can be composed of administrator permissions and user permissions through Sub Account of NAVER Cloud Platform, and you can define the roles for each permission. Because setting usage permissions is not a mandatory setup category, you can build the setting anytime you need permissions while using Datafence or clear it at any time.

Operating and managing Datafence with the main account may cause operation risk due to arbitrary changes of security devices, so it is recommended to grant administrator roles to the sub account and use the service.

Note

Sub Account is a service provided free of charge upon subscribing. For a detailed description of Sub Account and its pricing plan, see Services > Management & Governance > Sub Account on the NAVER Cloud Platform portal.

You can see the following user guide:

2. Prepare integrated services

Subscribe to NAVER Cloud Platform's services you want to use by integrating with Datafence in advance. Subscribe to Object Storage and SSL VPN, which are required integrated services. You can integrate with several services for infrastructure management and security as needed.
You can see the following user guide:

3. Create Datafence

Create a new Datafence. You can set the Datafence environment where you want to use Datafence and its access account, and the configuration of the data box the analyst will use and its access account.
You can see the following user guide:

4. Upload shared data and create data group

You can upload the target data to be analyzed to the shared storage. You can also customize the data to be viewed (mounted) for each data box by creating data groups.
You can see the following user guide:

5. Manage box

Add and return data boxes as needed upon operation, or add and return infrastructure, such as servers in the data box.
You can see the following user guide:

6. Review whether to export analysis results

When the analyst completes data analysis, creates results, and requests exporting the results, review the export adequacy of the results.
You can see the following user guide:

7. Return Datafence

Return Datafence that is no longer in use. You can also return the existing Datafence to create a new Datafence.

Data analysis quickstart

The following is the complete sequence of analyzing data and exporting the results and a description of each step:

1. Access box and environment settings
2. Analyze data
3. Request exporting analysis results
4. View approved results

1. Access box and environment settings

Receive the account information that can be accessed to the box's server and access the box. When you access the box, configure the task environment required for analysis tasks. When you need to install external tools, you can request to allow temporary Internet communication to the administrator.

2. Analyze data

Perform analysis tasks using infrastructure in the set environment. When you need to import external files for referring to the task, you can import the files through Object Storage.
You can see the following user guide:

3. Request exporting analysis results

When the analysis task is complete and results is created, request export review to externally export the results. After you request export, wait until the administrator reviews the request and the export is approved.
While waiting for approval, you can cancel the export request as needed.
You can see the following user guide:

4. View approved results

When the export request is approved, you will receive a notification email. When you receive the notification, check the analysis results in Object Storage bucket you specified when you request export.
